※1 この曲はBlurと最初に契約したレーベルであるFoodのオーナー、David Balfe氏について歌ったものらしいです。なんでも彼曰く、BlurのリーダーであるDemonは、仕事に使れ田舎にしばし身を隠した彼について、実際に家に行ったこともないのに想像で書いたそうです。

※3 90年代の英国におけるBritpopブームでは、Manchester出身のOasisとLondon出身のBlurが、「労働者階級 対 中産階級」という構図の下に敵対関係にありました（もちろん、マスメディアの過剰な演出も後押しして）。この一節は、95年に発売され全世界で2500万枚を売り上げたOasisの2ndアルバム「(What's the Story) Morning Glory?」に言及したものだとしばしば言われています。しかしながら、この曲がシングルとして発売されたのは95年の8月14日（OasisのRoll with itと同日に敢えて発売日を変えた）ですが、Oasisがアルバムを発売したのは同年の10月2日であり、また、同名の楽曲をオーストラリアとニュージーランドのみにおいてシングルで発表したのは同年の9月18日であるため、そのような関連はなかったとするのが一般的なようです。
この「morning glory」の解釈は（少なくとも僕には）定かではありません。単に、それなりに幸せな生活の象徴として朝顔を登場させているという説もあれば、「朝勃ち」を意味する英国特有のスラングであるとする説もあります。こういう時には原文をそのままにしておきたい気分に駆られます…
